The challenge
Surveyors work on moorland, in woodland and on coastlines. Their previous tool lost data whenever the signal dropped mid-submission.
The approach
The app treats the device as the source of truth. Every answer is written to a local SQLite database first, then replicated through a conflict-aware sync queue with idempotent writes.
I designed large, glove-friendly controls and a high-contrast mode for bright sunlight, tested with real surveyors on site.
The outcome
Teams captured more than twelve thousand surveys offline in the first season without a single lost record, and the app holds a 4.8 average rating.
