The challenge
Finance analysts matched bank lines to ledger entries by hand, and every month-end ran late.
The approach
I built a rules engine that proposes matches with a confidence score and explains its reasoning, leaving analysts to review only the exceptions. Every decision is written to an append-only audit log.
The outcome
Month-end close dropped from nine working days to three and the team now spends its time on analysis rather than matching.
