Accessibility is a feature you can test
A practical checklist for catching the problems that automated tools miss.
By Priya Raman ·

Automated scanners catch roughly a third of accessibility problems. The rest need a human, a keyboard and a few minutes of patience.
Unplug the mouse
Tab through every page. Can you see where focus is? Can you reach every control? Can you leave every dialog? If the answer to any of these is no, you have found a bug.
Read it aloud
Turn on a screen reader for ten minutes. Headings, landmarks and button labels that looked fine visually often turn out to be nonsense when spoken.
Respect preferences
Honour reduced-motion and high-contrast settings. They are not edge cases; they are how a meaningful share of your visitors keep their eyes comfortable.
